Ray's The Roof House The Homeless Foundation is dedicated to eradicating hunger, homelessness, and supporting underesourced populations in our communities. Our mission is two fold: first, to provide nourishment to the hungry, and second, to offer shelter to those experiencing homelessness, including but not limited to people with special needs, veterans, the elderly, and our youth, the future of this country. We strive to achieve this by establishing safe, temporary transitional shelters and affordable low-income housing. Through collaborative efforts with local institutions, businesses, and dedicated volunteers, we aim to address the immediate needs of those struggling while laying the groundwork for sustainable solutions. Our vision is a community where no one goes hungry or without a safe place to call home, regardless of age, ability, or background.
About Us:
Ray's The Roof House The Homeless Foundation, was established in 2019, born out of the urgent need for effective, non-partisan, nonprofit work in North Carolina. Our organization operates with a comprehensive focus on alleviating hunger and providing shelter to diverse populations, including the homeless, the hungry, those with special needs, our veterans, the elderly, and our underresourced youth.
In collaboration with an esteemed institution such as Elon University and local businesses including Belk, Bed Bath & Beyond, Outback Steakhouse, Olive Garden, Starbucks, and Flow Subaru in Burlington, NC, we conduct an annual food and clothing drive on MLK Day. Additionally, we support organizations like Trinity Worship Center, The Piedmont Rescue Mission, Mercy & Grace Outreach Ministries, Freedom's Hope Compassionate Ministries, and the Caring Kitchen through alternating weekly food donations.
While our plans to construct safe, affordable low-income housing have faced delays due to the challenges posed by Covid-19, we are steadfast in our commitment to commence construction in 2024. Collaborating with organizations like Building Humanity 501(c)(3), Engineers Without Borders USA, and local contractors, we aim to create housing solutions that cater to the diverse needs of the populations we serve.
In pursuit of our goal, we engage with municipalities, implementing proven programs such as "Housing First" "Rapid Rehousing" & "Voucher Programs." Furthermore, we embrace green and innovative building technologies, including M2 Emmedue & RSG-3D building systems, & "Green Cement that can cut CO2 emmissions to create sustainable and eco-friendly housing solutions. We believe that with unified community support, strategic partnerships, and innovative approaches, an end to food insecurity and homelessness is within reach for all members of our community. Together, we are building a future where everyone, regardless of age, ability, or background, has access to the necessities many of us take for granted.

After reading an article in 2019 about what an amazing non profit in California was doing. We reached out to Erin Colshan AIA, President/CEO of Building Humanity. They built a bakery and basketball court for Felix Family Orphanage in Surat Thani, Thailand. Building Humanity works with communities that are addressing systemic issues such as housing, education, girls & women, nutrition & healthcare and economic stability & growth. Working side by side with a community, Building Humanity helps facilitate the construction of their project using local resources, community involvement, and a team of volunteers and donated funds. Other projects have included homes for young families available through micro loans, a dormitory for girls to live and study during the school year, an eco-toilet facility, a community health center, a greenhouse to grow and sell vegetables, and a bakery that will employ local women and provide financial benefit to the community. Building Humanity focuses on projects that can address root issues within a community with short term action through the form of self contained projects. Erin agreed to work with us and the collaboration between Ray’s The Roof House The Homeless Foundation and Building Humanity is a great opportunity for these two charities to come together and complete a project that showcases Green, Safe, Affordable, Low income housing alternatives to stick built homes. That can serve as a model for the rest of the country to use to solve the homelessness crisis.

I'm homeless, but I'm not....
In one of the richest country's in the world our people should not go hungry!
Kidder the actress who played Superman's love interest Lois Lane, battled schizophrenia and manic depression. She even refused treatment at one time. Plagued by paranoia, Kidder slept in cardboard boxes and backyards around Los Angeles in 1996. With her front teeth missing and her hair hacked off, a disheveled Kidder announced to the Glendale, Calif., woman whose yard she occupied, 'I may not look like it, but I'm Margot Kidder.'"
Was so determined to play the role of Rocky that he was willing to put up with homelessness for a time. Stallone was sleeping on bus station benches, but he knew that if he could hold out to star in the boxing film he wrote, it would be the break that would launch him as a film star.
After her parents died when she was 22, the aspiring singer stepped up to raise her younger siblings. Twain experienced homelessness and domestic violence before getting her break, and she still managed to come out on top.
Before he became a famous author, actor, comedian and TV host, Harvey went through a rough patch in the 1980s. For a time, he was homeless and living out of his car. As he describes it: "I had nowhere to go. A week is really the maximum one can do. This was three years! It was rock bottom. But even in my darkest days, I had faith it would turn around."
When he was trying to get his musical I Know I’ve Been Changed off the ground, he spent six years homeless and living in his car. "Can you imagine a 6-foot-5 man sleeping in a Geo Metro?" Perry asked Essence magazine.
Though it may be hard imagine one of the most glamorous actresses in Hollywood living in a shelter, that's exactly the situation Halle Berry found herself in. While living in New York in her early 20s, she ran out of money. Instead of giving Berry a handout, her mom decided to teach her daughter to be her own woman by refusing to lend her more cash.
